The first compilation briefly available on PPL and widely re-upped on PPC, this is now on PPA in FLAC (100% lossless audio checked, just like the other two collections). It is also featured (with the original PPL front artwork) on the RYM site and rated 3.83 / 5.0 as an unofficial release.

BEATLESQUE AGAIN (2011)

Four years after the first collection, I didn't want to make some kind of a rehash, so on this second collection, i made the decision to not include any bands or artists already featured on "Meet The Beatlesque!". It meant no Rutles, no Spongetones, no Utopia...but some bands who have always worshipped the Fab Four. More than 40 years after the band had split, the Fab Four are more influential than ever.

LET IT BEATLESQUE (2019)

Posted in 2019 to celebrate 12 years of PPC, this new volume featured 52 new artists who were not involved on the first two collections trying to reach the Fab Four perfection. As usual, no songs from the 60's era were used, only songs released between 1971 and 2019 have been compiled on "Let It Beatlesque".

BEATLESQUE TO THE CORE (2025)

 

Here is the fourth part of my Beatlesque compilations, it comes 6 years after the previous one "Let It Beatlesque" (2019) which is still available here on PPA along "Meet The Beatlesque" (2007) and "Beatlesque Again" (2011).

As usual, no songs from the 60's era were used, only songs released between 1982 and 2024 have been compiled on "Beatlesque To The Core" (minus the fabulous 1973 song by Badfinger, which was the very last Apple single).

A complete set of artwork has been included, it features all the bands and albums that can be found on this new volume.

The Original "Beatlesque" (Mojo April 1996 Home Taping)

VARIOUS - BEATLESQUE (1996)

 

In 1996, Paul Du Noyer, born in Liverpool and writer, editor for NME, Q and Mojo compiled his "C90's home taping" of Beatlesque songs, Surveying stuff from the 60s (Knickerbockers) up to the 90s (World Party). Of course, this feature was a major influence for my own Beatlesque compilations. (See below).

 

All the original liner notes, written by Paul Du Noyer have been included within the booklet, all elements have been scanned, resized to fit in a custom CD artwork.

 

Maybe the easiest volume to re-build the compilation, the main body of work was the artwork, so i sincerely hope you'll enjoy and appreciate the exclusive share on PPA.

Head Over Japan (Power Mop Pop)

VARIOUS - IT'S KITCHEN (1999)

 

A little known compilation of six Japanese bands providing two tracks each (although we can wonder if it isn't the work of one artist). A hook-filled pop goldmine for everyone who love the fab four and '60s pop. For info, i had included one of those songs on the third volume of my Beatlesque compilations: "Let It Beatlesque".

BEAGLE HAT - MAGICAL HAT (2006)

 

Just give a look at the sleeve, and you know what kind of music you'll find inside. Actually, this is a japanese band with David Paton (Pilot) on lead vocals, who also wrote some songs. An exceptional Beatlesque album released in Japan only.

The Final Part of the PPC/PPA Compilations (over 205 between 2006 and 2026)

SOME SOUNDALIKES, SOMETIMES THEY SOUND LIKE (2010)

Back in 2010, the purpose of this large collection was to try to show how some bands had something in common, the love and respect for their famous forerunners. So instead of covering some classic tunes, they wrote original songs, mixed and produced them in the spirit of the bands they admired.

In the following years, i expanded the concept with the ELO-ISH, Byrdsian, Beatlesque, Brian Wilsonesque or even Glam & Glitter compilations, so you won't be surprized to find some songs here that were also used for those collections. Enjoy.

Tasty Power Pop (Never Reissued)

NASTY POP - MISTAKEN I.D. (1977)

Nasty Pop were a beatlesque Liverpool band who were courted by major labels but who didn't quite achieve the breakthrough their bold, sparky song writing deserved. Their first album appeared on Island in 1975 and a move to Polydor resulted in the far superior "Mistaken I.D." album in 1977. Nasty Pop split in 1978. Typically the kind of stuff out of its time in the punk years of 1977. Keith Wilkinson later joined Squeeze.

UK LP Edition (14 Tracks) (Never Properly Reissued)

FLAMIN' GROOVIES - JUMPIN' IN THE NIGHT (1979, UK Edition)

 

UK edition of "Jumpin' In The Night", final part of the Sire trilogy. The track order is totally different from the US edition, with also some alternate choices of the covers selected. "You're My Wonderful One", "19th Nervous Breakdown" & a beatlesque "Boys" replace "Werewolves of London" and "It Won't Be Wrong". As the UK edition goes, the choice of "Please Please Me" as the opening seems more than obvious, and the title track becomes the piece de resistance as the final track of side 1. For all these reasons, UK Side one is so strong that the second side dismally fails to attain the same kind of density. This edition has never been reissued in CD.

BEAGLE HAT - ORANGE GROOVE (2009)

 

“Orange Groove” follows on from “Magical Hat” in the David Paton/Beagle Hat collaborations. Both of these Beagle Hat CDs have reached cult status in a very short time and they are sought after by record collectors the world over. It’s a marriage made in heaven for Beagle Hat and David Paton.

1996 comeback album from 2 surviving members of this underground late 60s Beatle-esque mellow psychedelic group who released the collector favorite private press "Corridor of Faces" in 1969.

Reunion without Carmen

RASPBERRIES - REFRESHED (2000)

 

It's hard to picture power pop masters the Raspberries without singer Eric Carmen, but that's exactly what happened to the group during the early 21st century. After an attempt at a reunion (with Carmen) failed to materialize during the late '90s, the other Raspberries - original member/guitarist Wally Bryson, plus latter-day members Scott McCarl (guitar) and Dave Smalley (bass) - decided to go through with a reunion despite Carmen's non-participation. Highlights include the Beatlesque "When Is Your Dream?," the up-tempo "Pop Teasers," and the obligatory love song, "Someone Like You."

Between Alfalfa and Dream Academy (Never Reissued)

THE ACT - TOO LATE AT 20 (1981)

 

Prior to Dream Academy, Nick Laird-Clowes led the more down-to-earth Act. On the band's lone album, impeccable production (by Joe Boyd and John Wood of Nick Drake, Fairport Convention fame) gives his controlled passion and the band's tight, tasteful playing a clearly deserved chance to be heard. Elvis Costello and Tom Petty appear to be the Act's major influences (there are also nods to the Byrds and Springsteen) but the quartet rises above derivation, giving such songs as "Touch and Go" and "The Long Island Sound" indelible emotional authenticity. (Trouser Press)

The album includes a reworking fo the two songs included on the "499 2139" compilation.

The Act also featured Mark Gilmour (brother of David) who joined Scarlet Party, a band having released "101 Damn-Nations", a beatlesque song included on plenty of compilations.

The U.K. Boyfriends (Never Reissued)

THE BOYFRIENDS - LAST BUS HOME (1978)

 

Third and final single released by The Boyfriends, Pat Collier will be a renowned producer of the era (The Soft Boys, Robyn Hitchcock, Katrina & The Waves, Primal Scream, Wonderstuff and many more). Chris Skornia will join Steve Lindsey (ex-Deaf School) in The Planets, play with the mod band The Truth and finally is part of the beatlesque band The Overtures,  Mark Henry (aka Mark Sidgewick) will play with Holly & The Italians and will be part of the american power pop band House Of The Usher with George Usher, Finally Steve Bray after playing drums with Toyah will join The Lambrettas.

First 7" EP (Never Reissued)

THE TEARAWAYS - SOUNDS LIKE... (1981)

 

Hailing from Santa Barbara, California, The Tearaways released their first 7" EP with four stellar songs, including the beatlesque "Don't Feel So Bad". After a 12 year hiatus, The Tearaways returned with "See The Sound" (1993). The band is still very active today and has released their latest album in 2023 "And Four Our Next Trick".

Pre Choo Choo Train / Velvet Crush (Never Reissued) (Part 1)

PAUL CHASTAIN - HALO (1985)

 

Before joining forces in Choo Choo Train, and then Velvet Crush, Ric Menck and singer/bassist Paul Chastain pursued the pop muse separately in different parts of Illinois. Menck was half of the Reverbs.

Paul Chastain reached 12-inch vinyl shortly thereafter, with a solo mini album. The teasingly brief six-song "Halo" is a real charmer, tender and skillfully realized originals that brush against R.E.M. pop, Beatlesque wistfulness and modest approximations of studio grandiloquence, all buoyed by Paul Chastain's sweet voice and confident aplomb.

OPEN THE BOX #5 (1997) (Remastered 2023)

 

First released in 1997 under an alias as a long lost gem from the 60's, it became less famous than other acts as XTC with The Dukes of Stratosphear or even The Damned with Naz Nomad. Over the years, it became an overlooked gem which has been remastered in 2023 and released with a new artwork. The real name of the artist is now printed on the release. The 1997 was part of the AWoS 2007 and four songs of the album were featured on four PPC compilations "Meet The Beatlesque (2007),  "The Pocket Symphonies To God (Brian Wilsonesque)" (2008), "Those Byrds Have Flown (A Byrdsian Tribute) (2011), and "Some Soundalikes, Sometimes They Sound Like" (2010).
