VARIOUS - SHARP CUTS (New Music From American Bands) (1980)
Sharp Cuts features some great music. Ric Ocasek of the Cars produces ex-La Peste Peter Dayton's "Last Supper," as well as the Fast's brilliant "Kids Just Wanna Dance." Both songs are highlights here, but Bates Motel's (they later took the name of Gleaming Spires and became Sparks backing band)'s "Live Among the Dancers" and Single Bullet Theory's "Keep It Tight" get high marks for memorable hooks. Everything on Sharp Cuts is worthwhile, including a rare version of Chris Stamey's "Soul Kiss," performed by the dB's and produced by Alan Betrock; and Gary Valentine & The Know's "I Like Girls" - definite power pop that rocks.

I saw what you did there, Angelo .... Well, we could help but be proud at the time. It really was a neat compilation full of hopefuls. We happen to be in L.A. when we got approached by Planet Records to be included. We didn't know that we would be on this with our home town buddy Gary Valentine (The Know) but it made it a little more fun for us. Gary later did record guitar on the 3 Zone brother Mandy's(aka Armand) band Ozone recording "Shotgun"
